Breaking News - MEND Camps under Heavy Attacks!!!

At about 0930 Hrs today, May 13, 2009, the Nigerian armed forces launched an
unprovoked attack on two major MEND camps in Delta state hoping to overwhelm them
with the element of surprise.

Unfortunately for the raiders, we were waiting for them. A bloody battle is on-going
and two gunboats belonging to the army have already been sunk by mines with several
casualties on the side of the army.

All freedom fighters in the Niger Delta have been placed on alert to defend their
positions and unleash a horrible toll on the oil industry and the Nigerian economy.

Indiscriminate Aerial Bombardment!

The Nigerian armed forces today launched indiscriminate aerial bombardment on the
defenseless civilians in the Gbaramatu area of Delta state to serve as a punishment
for the humiliating defeat they suffered when they tried to raid two militant camps
on Wednesday, May 13.

Casualties are mostly women, children and the elderly who could not get away quickly
into the bush or high sea.

Considering that the target of the government happens to be the same state supposed
to champion its false peace and amnesty drive, our skepticism has proven to be
correct.

Update: Hostage Killed!

One hostage has been killed by stray bullets from the Nigerian army who attacked an
area they were being held in Delta state.

Update on Fighting!

Considering that ours is a war of detachment and our camps are not meant to serve as
permanent barracks, fighters from Camp 5 simply relocated to another camp with
all their weapons and ammunition's intact. This is normal in guerrilla warfare.

We are embarrassed at the dismal performance of the Nigerian armed forces who
performed like poorly trained amateurs by bombing indiscriminately into civilian
communities using helicopter gunships and fighter jet planes. Civilians should have
been allowed to leave the area before the attack. This simply has shown that the

Update on Fighting (2)

Sunday, May 17, 2009 revealed the desperation of the Nigerian armed forces in a war
it has no way of winning when the world witnessed indiscriminate use of missiles and
bombs on several defenseless Ijaw communities in Delta state. This is the height of
cowardice.

At one point we began wondering if the pilots had problems with the calibration of
their weapons. It is now evident that sheer resentment of a people waking up to
claim what has been stolen for five decades was the cause.

To make matters worse, the Nigerian government, aware of the consequences of its

MEND Reaction to Army version of Events

The Director of Defense Information (DDI), Col Chris Jemitota and the kindergarten
spokesman of the JTF, Lt. Col Rabe Abubakar seems to contradict themselves on the
events leading to the indiscriminate bombardment, wanton destruction of
property and killing of defenseless women, children and the elderly by the
irresponsible armed forces of Nigeria.

- While the DDI says a rescue team was ambushed after it was sent to rescue the crew
from the seized vessel MV Spirit, JTF said earlier that their men were ambushed

Military False Claim on Weapons Seizure

The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) counters the false
claims by the military Joint task Force that it recovered a cache of heavy weapons
from two abandoned transit camps of militants in Delta state.

If the truth be told, the military is lying to justify the failure of it's operation
to apprehend any militant or seize any weapons after its reckless and irresponsible
use of aerial arsenal on defenseless women, children, the elderly and those too sick
to escape.

Out thoughts go to the pregnant women and some disabled individuals killed.

Blood Oil Update

We watched in amusement the military Joint Task Force press conference where they
claimed military successes and capture of weapons in a bid to hoodwink the media.

Except for those who wish to be deceived, the fact is that none of the weapons
displayed were recovered from our camps as claimed. Our standard issue is the AK47
Assault Rifle and none was displayed. Instead rusty Dane guns used by hunters and
old machetes and other weapons taken from God knows where were displayed.

The army is so eager to cover its shame that they invited the governor for the

Update on Blood Oil War (3)

At about 0200 Hrs today, Monday, May 25, 2009, fighters from the Movement for the
Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) destroyed major trunk lines to effectively
put the under-listed flow stations that feed the Chevron tank farm located in Delta
state of Nigeria out of operation. The affected flow stations are:

- Chevron (at Alero creek)
- Otunana
- Abiteye
- Makaraba
- Dibi

We borrowed a leaf from the federal government of Nigeria by applying the
same measure of treatment the impoverished oil bearing communities suffered in the

JTF Attack Claims

The leader of a small group of fighters around the Buguma creek axis in Rivers
state, Egbele has confirmed that there was no attack in his camp as claimed by the
military JTF.

He said they actually asked him to cooperate by giving the impression his camp has
been over-run.

This is surely a dubious sign of desperation.
